Mayor’s charity launch

The newly elected Mayor of Fareham, Councillor Ernest Crouch will on Sunday 18th May 2008 launch his charity appeal for the coming municipal year. Taking place at Cams Hall between 12 noon - 2pm, the Mayor will announce the NSPCC, Crimestoppers and Fareham Talking News as his chosen charities.

NSPCC

A charity with whom Councillor Crouch worked with for 12 years, the NSPCC works extensively with children who are at risk of or who have suffered from neglect or abuse. By supporting the charity, it is hoped services can improve further and be offered to even more children and young people.

Crimestoppers

Crimestoppers offers a confidential crime reporting service that helps local police forces to resolve crime in their area. Celebrating its 20th anniversary, this highly successful charity, which operates a 24 hour phone reporting service, results in around 17 people each day being arrested as a direct result of information it receives. The charity took over 80,000 calls last years with the help of 400 volunteers.

Fareport Talking News

A local charity which offers a free weekly taped news service to the blind or partially sighted in Fareham and Gosport. The one hour and 20 minute tapes and CDs comprise of news and information taken from local newspapers which are then delivered free of charge to households.

The Mayor of Fareham Councillor Crouch said: “I look forward to meeting many residents around the borough at fundraising events over the coming year whilst also raising vital funds for my very worthy charities the NSPCC, Crimestoppers and Fareport Talking News.”
