Press Release

Friday 30th May

Recycle Week

An action-packed week of displays, presentations and give-aways will take place in Fareham during Recycle Week starting on Monday 2 June. Fareham Borough Council’s Waste and Recycling Officers are taking a stand in Fareham Shopping Centre on Monday 2 and Tuesday 3 June to promote recycling and composting. They will be on hand all day to answer any questions from residents, give out information and offer advice.

On Wednesday 4 June the recycling team has been invited to the Office for National Statistics (ONS) as part of a programme of activities taking place at their offices in Titchfield for Recycle Week. The team will be giving a presentation on ‘Resources, Recycling and Climate Change’ as well as holding an exhibition in the restaurant to answer any questions from ONS staff.

On Thursday 5 June the team moves to Asda, Fareham, with an exhibition near the store entrance. The Mayor of Fareham, Councillor Ernest Crouch, will be attending for part of the day to give away some re-useable shopping bags, kindly donated by Asda, to encourage residents to ‘reduce, re-use recycle’.

Executive Member for Streetscene, Councillor Brian Bayford, said: “I hope Fareham residents will use this opportunity to meet the waste advisers and find out more about what can be re-used, recycled or composted. We need every resident to be more efficient if we are to meet the government’s tight target for 50% of all household waste to be recycled by 2010.”

There will be activities for children all week with give-aways for those taking part and there will be prize draws for sacks of Pro-Grow compost throughout the week too.
