Toon Cup 2008 Nominations

 

The 30th Annual Toon Cup Award is once again open to local sports groups, clubs and associations from across the Borough of Fareham.

The award recognises sport groups which encourage the participation and development of young people in their sport.

Groups are invited to enter nominations by Monday 30th June 2008, with the winner receiving £500 to assist with the clubs’ development, as well as receiving the coveted Toon Cup itself.

 

Entry Criteria:

• The club should be based in the borough of Fareham.

• The club’s development and activities should be primarily for borough residents.

• Evidence of self-help, voluntary effort and fund raising.

• The club should demonstrate its ability to build on and sustain the current development

  activity.

Executive Member for Community, Councillor Connie Hockley, said: “The Toon Cup offers a great opportunity for local sports clubs, groups and associations to be honoured for their commitment to encouraging youngsters to participate in and stay involved in sports.  Entries for the competition continue to be high, which is exactly the sort of response we want to encourage and shows our commitment to sports development within the borough. We look forward to receiving this year’s nominations.”

Notes to Editors:

 

The Toon Cup was introduced by the late Lt Cdr J (Jock) H Toon, then Mayor of Fareham, to recognise the club’s commitment to sports development.  It has been awarded each year since 1978.

The first recipients of the Toon Cup in 1978 were the Fareham Athletic Club who also won the award again in 1983.
