The borough’s six Citizens of Honour for 2008 will be visiting the Mayor’s Parlour on Wednesday 2 July at 3pm to sign the roll of honour and be presented with their certificates by the Mayor of Fareham, Councillor Ernest Crouch.
In addition to the certificates, each of the award winners will be presented with a family ticket to the gala performance of this year’s pantomime, ‘Dick Whittington’ at Ferneham Hall.
Mayor of Fareham, Councillor Ernest Crouch, said: “I am looking forward to inviting our Citizens of Honour into the Mayor’s Parlour and will be delighted to present them with their certificates and tickets to the pantomime. Each Citizen of Honour has contributed greatly to the community and to helping others. Congratulations to them all.”
The 2008 adult award winners are Valerie Rossiter, Heather Othen, Sylvia Rosewarn and , Alfred Breeze, and the two Young Citizens of Honour are Micah King and Amber Horton.
Valerie Rossiter
In recognition of the voluntary unpaid effort to those suffering from Parkinson’s disease, their carers and families. Working for the Fareham and District Branch of the Parkinson Disease Society as a committee member, chairman and Welfare Liaison Officer, whilst caring for her husband and making time to help and advise others.
Heather Othen
In recognition of the voluntary and unpaid efforts as a founder member and lead co-ordinator of Fareham in Bloom. Heather has devoted much time and effort to ensure the success of the local gardening competition and in 2007 Fareham won a gold medal and the prestigious title “Champion of Champions for the whole of the South and South East of England”.
Sylvia Rosewarn
In recognition of over 30 years service as a lollipop lady for Orchard Lea Infant and Junior Schools. Now part of the community, Sylvia always has a cheery smile, remembers every child and carer’s name and listens with a friendly ear.
Alfred Breeze
In recognition of the loyalty and selfless dedication to causes that benefit young people and the community, including over 75 years voluntary service to the scouting movement, holding the position of District President of Fareham East District since 1989.
Amber Horton
In recognition of the bravery and courage shown by Amber when she rescued her friend from the sea after he fell from the rocks into deep water whilst on a family day out to the beach.
Amber jumped in and dragged her friend back to the shore with no concern for her own safety.
Micah King
In recognition of the kindness and generosity shown to others. Micah acts as a main carer to his younger brother who is severely autistic and supports his Mum by providing respite for her.
Micah also works with the “Let Us Play” play scheme for disabled youngsters in Fareham during school holidays and assists at a church crèche in Locks Heath.
