Fareham’s Community Safety Partnership

Tackling community safety is not the sole responsibility of one single agency and Fareham’s Community Safety Partnership represents a joint commitment to tackling crime and disorder in the borough.  Its mission statement is:

“To promote community safety in order to improve the quality of life for residents and ensure Fareham remains a safe place in which to live, work and visit.”

The Crime and Disorder Act 1998

The Crime and Disorder Act 1998 (CDA 98) (this is an external hyperlink) places a statutory duty on local authorities and the police to work in partnership with other key agencies, together with the local community, to develop and implement initiatives to reduce crime and disorder and anti-social behaviour. Each local partnership is tasked to:

  • Conduct and publish audits and consultations of crime and disorder problems in the Borough
  • Identify local crime and disorder priorities
  • Formulate and publish a strategy to assist in tackling these key priorities, including objectives and targets
  • Monitor progress and 'fine tune' strategies as required
  • Conduct an annual self assessment of the partnership to identify strengths and explore areas for improvement

Membership of Fareham’s Community Safety Partnership

Fareham's Community Safety Partnership was established in 1998 in response to the CDA 1998. Since the partnership formed, the Police Reform Act 2002 has extended the range of bodies with whom the statutory responsibility for the Crime and Disorder Act lays. The designated 'responsible authorities' for Fareham now incorporate:

The partnership consists of senior representatives from the designated responsible authorities noted above as well as :

Fareham's Community Safety Partnership Plan 2008-2009

The Partnership is now required to complete annual Strategic Assessments which outline the priorities for the Partnership over the following year. To complement the assessment a rolling Partnership Plan is also agreed which makes clear what actions the various partnership agencies will carry out, in order to address the priorities in the assessment. In other words the assessment lets the Partnership know what the current issues are with regard to community safety in the area, and the Plan is primarily what is going to be done about them.

Information on the Community Safety Partnership can now be accessed through the networkfareham (this is an external hyperlink) webpages.

CADDIE

CADDIE (Crime and Disorder Data Information Exchange) (this is an external hyperlink) provides a variety of information about crime and anti-social behaviour in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.  The project is run by the eleven Community Safety Partnerships in the county.
