Peninsula Project

In September 2004, the Government launched the Prolific and Other Priority Offenders Strategy (this is an external hyperlink). This National Strategy is an initiative to reduce crime by targeting those who offend most or otherwise cause most harm to their communities. The new strategy allows local areas to identify and select offenders using the following criteria:

  1. the nature and volume of crimes they are committing
  2. the nature and volume of other harm they are causing (e.g. by virtue of their gang leadership or anti-social behaviour)
  3. other local criteria based on the impact of the individuals concerned , on their local area

The Peninsula Project is jointly funded by Fareham's Community Safety Partnership, Gosport's Community Safety Partnership (this is an external hyperlink) and Hampshire Police Authority (this is an external hyperlink). The Peninsula Project manages the two Boroughs most prolific offenders and ensures that individuals identified are intensively monitored and supervised, whether they are in custody or out in the community.

The key partners are:

Findings so far this year (2007) have shown a significant reduction in inquisitive crime (stealing items to sell on) in the two Boroughs.
