There are many different sporting activities and events that take place in the borough during the year. Information about some of these events can be found below. 'Inspiring You' Event

Fareham Borough Council in partnership with Sport Hampshire & IOW and Hampshire County Council are organising this event to provide opportunities and information for disabled children, young people and their families across the Borough.

Kim Minett who is from Fareham, will also be attending the event. She has represented Great Britain at the Paralympics and World Championships.

Kim took up field events after retiring from swimming at the age of 17 due to a back problem. She then took up shot in 1998 and was an instant success winning bronze at the World Championships. She just missed out on the medals in Athens, finishing 4th in shot and in the process setting a personal best and a seasons best in discus. Kim enjoys discus and finds it easier than the shot.

Caudwell Children's Charity

Caudwell Children's Charity (65 Kb) is a national charity which helps disabled children on a number of levels. It was noted that a number of young people requiring glasses to play football were being excluded, as the referee or team managers thought it was dangerous. However, there are specialist sports glasses which are approved by FIFA, but they are approx £150.00 per pair, which makes them cost -prohibitive in most cases. Players who need the sports glasses to be able to safely compete, as long as the need for the equipment is supported by a medical professional and a coach /manager, may be applicable for a donation towards the cost if they contact the charity.

Events

The Hampshire & Isle of Wight FA Girls Sevens & Women's Fives (1274kb) is sponsored by the Hampshire County Women and Girls Football League and is an annual small sided football competition for female teams.  The tournament is open to teams at U10, U12, U14, U16 & Ladies and is hosted at Hampshire FA's headquarters at Winklebury Football Complex, Winklebury Way, Basingstoke, Hampshire, RG23 8BF on Saturday 22nd & Sunday 23rd May 2010

The Hampshire & Isle of Wight Sports Awards 2010 (48 Kb) . These awards are now open for nominations.

Hampshire FA Inclusive Football ( 648 Kb) . The inclusive programme is about establishing opportunities for, and offering provision to, disabled players.

The Hampshire Games is an event for all young people across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight and takes place during the summer.  Here are the Parallel Games 2009 Results (252 Kb) for all Fareham Schools who participated - congratulations and well done to all.

Fareham Borough Council in conjunction with Fareham Leisure Centre runs an Exercise Referral Scheme for Fareham residents with a pre-existing or health risk condition.

 

Apply for a Fareham Leisure Card membership scheme for discounts of between 5% - 25% at a variety of recreational facilities in the borough.

 

Funding Opportunities

The National Skills Academy, Skills Active and Sports Coach UK have worked with Sports England in delivering a new £1.8 million programme to fund qualifications for aspiring sports coaches. Applicants must have undertaken a course from 1st January 2009 until 31st March 2009, and they can apply for a rebate of up to 66% of the course costs.
