Sport Development

The Sport Development Service for the Borough is co-ordinated by the Partnerships and Development Officer.

The aim of the Service is to identify and promote sport development initiatives and opportunities and where possible to support local sports clubs and organisations.

An example of this support is the award of the Toon Cup. This annual award recognises significant achievement by a local club in the promotion and development of their respective sport.

Hampshire Youth Games

The games consist of nine sports Athletics, Basketball, Football, Hockey, Netball, Tag Rugby, Tennis, Squash and Badminton.

The aim of the Hampshire Youth Games is to encourage children of various ages at grass roots level to participate in a major sporting event.

Fareham Borough Council is also working in partnership with external organisations to encourage greater participation in sport. An example of this is the Round the Harbours Sponsored Family Bike Ride. In previous years this has been organised by the four local councils, Portsmouth, Havant, Gosport and Fareham. In 2006, however, The British Heart Foundation took over the running of the event which was held with the support of these councils.
