The Toon Cup is awarded annually to a local sports club in recognition of its achievement during the year to encourage the introduction of and continued participation of young people from grass roots to competitive level. In addition to the award of the Toon Cup, a grant of £250 is also given to the successful club.
The Toon Cup was introduced by the late Commander JH (Jock) Toon when he was the Mayor of Fareham, to recognise the club's commitment to sports development. It has been awarded each year since 1978.
Each year local sports clubs and associations are invited directly, by letter, to submit entries for the competition. To ensure maximum exposure, posters are displayed on the 42 notice boards around the Borough and a press release is issued. To encourage more clubs to apply for this award the application has been simplified and guidelines on completion are available if required.
