Fareham Borough Council was given its Fairtrade (this is an external hyperlink) status on Saturday 17th February 2007.

This has been a fantastic achievement, made possible with the support, hard work and the goodwill of many people.

The declaration of Fareham’s new status was made on the 17th February 2007, attended by Mark Hoban, MP for Fareham, and Councillor Seán Woodward, Leader of Fareham Borough Council.

For further information and the latest up to date directory (it is updated regularly as others join) please visit the Fareham Fairtrade working group website at www.fftb.org.uk (this is an external hyperlink).

Should you wonder which goods are Fairtrade, they must carry the Fairtrade Logo, see logo at the top of this page and look for this mark on Fairtrade products.  This is an independent, internationally recognised guarantee that:

  • The producer of the goods receives a fair price that covers the cost of sustainable production
  • That a premium is paid that can be investigated in development
  • That goods are supplied under contracts that allow for long term planning and sustainable production practices
  • That workers are treated  decently and paid living wage
  • That basic health and safety and environmental standards are met
  • That no forced or child labour is used
