Fareham Borough Council is sad to report the death of former Mayor and Councillor, Alderman Ernest Crouch, who passed away peacefully in his sleep yesterday Wednesday (13th November).
Ernest Crouch was a well-respected Borough Councillor, representing Portchester West from 1979-1995 and 1996-2010, during which time he also served as Mayor in 1990/1991 and 2008/2009. He served as Leader of the Council in 1994 -1995. He was admitted to the roll of Honorary Aldermen in July 2010.
Executive Leader of the Council, Councillor Seán Woodward, said: "It was my privilege and pleasure to have known Ernie as a good friend and colleague for over 30 years. With his wife Enid he gave unstinting service to the Borough of Fareham; over his years as a Councillor he was twice our Mayor, he served as Leader and as long-term Chairman of the Housing Committee. I know he was delighted to be made an Alderman for his services and I also know that he will be sorely missed by his family, his friends and his colleagues. I send my deepest condolences to his wife and family."
No funeral arrangements have yet been made.
