Press Release

6 August 2014

Improvement works at Saltern's Promenade, Hill HeadImage of salterns promenade

£240,000 worth of coastal maintenance works, has been completed at Saltern's Promenade, Hill Head.

The promenade has been resurfaced and the timber edging has been replaced as some of the wood had become rotten, giving it better protection from the sea. A new cycleway has also been built.

The work was carried out by Balfour Beatty, in partnership with the Eastern Solent Coastal Partnership. Funding for the project was provided by Fareham Borough Council (£220,000) and SUSTRANS, who contributed £20,000 for the new cycleway.

Executive Member for Planning and Development at Fareham Borough Council, Cllr Keith Evans, said: "This improvement work will extend the life of the promenade. The old promenade was looking tired, with cracks in. Saltern's Promenade is a lovely spot and these works will protect it for peoples' enjoyment into the future."

The project was completed on time and within budget. The contract was timed for late spring to early summer to avoid working through the winter period and to ensure the works were complete in time for the summer holidays.
