Press Release

24 September 2014

Fareham Councillor switches political group

Portchester East Ward Councillor, Geoff Fazackarley, resigned from the Liberal Democrats Group yesterday and has joined the Conservative Group with immediate effect.

The political balance of the Council is now as follows;

Conservative                        24                    77%
Liberal Democrat                  4                      13%
UKIP                                     1                      3%
(Independent)                       2                      7%

Whilst there is a UKIP councillor, a group cannot be formed by a single member and so for the purposes of the calculations of political proportionality for committee allocations, the UKIP councillor will be treated as an independent member.

The Council will be asked to review the allocation of committee seats in accordance with the new calculations at its meeting on 9 October 2014.

Councillor Fazackarley's Terms of Office include:

15 March 2012 – 1 May 2014

27 May 2014 – 05 May 2018
