Press Release

3 December, 2014

High Street users' rest assured

A  Fareham resident has organised for two benches to be installed half way up the steep hill on the High Street so people walking up and down it can stop to rest.

The resident made the application to Fareham Borough Council's Community Fund for £3,106. The total cost to purchase and install two benches, one on each side of the road. As the High Street is a special conservation area the two benches need to be of a design that fits in with the character of the street and made to order by a local blacksmith.

Chairman of Fareham Town Community Action Team Councillor Trevor Howard said: "We are happy to pay for the benches. I would encourage any resident that has an idea for an improvement in their area that would benefit their community to apply for Community Funding too".

Any resident or organisation based in the Borough can apply to the Community Fund for up to £4,999 to pay for one off purchases that benefit the local community or environment. To find out more contact your local CAT Officer on 01329 236100, or email cats@fareham.gov.uk.
