Works to improve two skate parks in Fareham will begin in the New Year. Freestyle Skate Parks will be constructing the new concrete facilities at Park Lane and Abshot Road thanks to £150,000 from the Council.
The skate park in Park Lane will be moved to a more central location in the recreation ground and will include a new mini ramp, quarter pipes, jump box, pole jam, curved ledges, handrails, stair sets and a 4.5ft spine. Works to complete the new facility are expected to take approximately 9 weeks. The existing metal skate ramp facility will be removed once the new facility has been built.
Improvement works to the Abshot Road skate park will take approximately 3–4 weeks. The play area was also refurbished in the summer after residents voted on which new play equipment they would like to see get installed.
Executive Member for Leisure and Community, Cllr Connie Hockley said: "Both of the skate parks have been designed with the help of local young people, so that we could make sure that we meet the needs of everyone. These improvements will mean that the residents can enjoy new, modern facilities in a safe environment."
