Seafarers Sailing Club has been awarded £4,999 from Fareham Borough Council's Community Fund, towards the cost of purchasing three replacement sailing dinghies for beginners.
The non-profit club, based at Hill Head, was formed to encourage the sport of dinghy sailing and has helped many young people in Fareham to take part in the sport. During the summer, they provided many young people with their first experience of sailing, and helped novice sailors to develop their skills by giving lessons at Access All Areas events.
Executive member for Leisure and Community, Cllr Connie Hockley, said: "The club has made this rewarding sport accessible to local young people. The new dinghies will ensure they can continue to offer this valuable service."
The Community Fund is available to support projects that benefit the local community or environment within the Borough of Fareham. Any resident, or organisation can apply for money for one off purchases from the Community Fund. For more information phone 01329 236100 or email email@example.com.
