The Building Control Partnership (BCP), a joint service provided by Fareham Borough Council, Gosport Borough Council and Portsmouth City Council, has been recognised with the award for the 'Best Partnership with a local authority' at the 2016 LABC South East Building Excellence Awards.
A presentation evening took place at The Grand Hotel, Brighton on Friday 24 June.
The award recognised BCP's longstanding and successful partnership with Thorns Young LTD. Thorns Young are an Architectural and Surveying practice based in Portsmouth and have used BCP for building control consultancy and applications for their projects across the South East region since 2009.
BCP deal with around 300 applications from them per year and have developed a close, mutually beneficial working relationship.
The Building Excellence Awards, which are organised by Local Authority Building Control (LABC), recognise the importance of building control in creating high quality and sustainable building environments that comply with the highest standards of safety, environmental efficiency and accessibility.
The 'Best Partnership' award recognises a successful partnership where a local authority building control department and other partners have worked together to deliver great buildings and innovative solutions.
The BCP team and their partners were also shortlisted for awards in a further four categories- -Best individual House together with Space &Style Home designs, Best High Volume Housing development with Crayfern Homes, Best Social Housing Development with PDP Architecture and Best Inclusive Building with PDP Architecture.
Councillor Keith Evans, Executive Member for Planning and Development at Fareham Borough Council, Councillor Donna Jones, Leader of Portsmouth City Council and Councillor Tony Jessop, Chair of the Regulatory Board at Gosport Borough Council, who jointly have responsibility for Building Control commented:

This is recognition of all their hard work and the fact that this partnering arrangement is working so well. This is a great example of collaborative working helping to deliver high quality safe buildings that will serve our residents for decades".
