Local children have received their prizes for winning a colouring competition to design a wedding-themed bunting flag at the Royal Wedding Garden Party, which took place at Westbury Manor on Thursday 21 April.
The Garden Party hosted by the Council's Play Rangers in partnership with Westbury Manor Museum and the Fareham Branch of Cheltenham and Gloucester, was set on a traditional 'street party' theme, with a vintage, community twist. Over 350 children and adults took part in a range of activities including the colouring competition, a huge thumb print mosaic, tile painting and decorating commemorative mementos whilst being entertained by a local entertainer.
As well as being supported by a number of local organisations, the event was sponsored by the Fareham Branch of Cheltenham and Gloucester who also provided the Young Investor Accounts which were awarded to of the lucky prize winners.
The prizes were awarded to the winners by the Fareham, West Street Branch Manager, Mrs Alison Jones and Councillor Mrs Hockley, Executive Member for Leisure and Community, who said: "I was delighted to present the prizes to the winning young artists and I am very pleased that the Council was able to secure the support of Cheltenham and Gloucester for our event. It is really encouraging that this event has enabled one of our local businesses to support the Council in creating some traditional, good old-fashioned community spirit whilst providing positive, free opportunities for local children and young people".
The winning entries are currently on display, along with the completed thumb print mosaic, at the Fareham Branch of Cheltenham and Gloucester, before being moved to the Civic Offices.
