Fareham's Apprenticeship Programme

Fareham Borough Council will be hosting 13 apprentices from this September as part of an Apprenticeship Programme.

The London Apprenticeship Company (known locally as Apprentices for Business) has been appointed as the Apprenticeship Training Agency that will support the Council in delivering the Apprenticeship scheme. It will be Apprentices for Business who will employ the apprentices and deal with all the formal training requirements whilst Fareham Borough Council will host the placements.

Each apprentice will be based at Fareham Borough Council, but may go elsewhere to partner organisations for certain aspects of their training if required. The apprentices will study over a 12 to 18 month period for a nationally recognised vocational qualification at various levels, equivalent to an NVQ or B/Tec.

Students within the local schools and colleges have been made fully aware of the above websites and are advised that they are required to apply via these routes. The roles will also be distributed to Fareham Connexions.

Executive Leader for Fareham Borough Council, Councillor Se�n Woodward, said: "The Apprenticeship Programme will provide the skills people need to take into the workplace and will be an excellent platform for the rest of their careers. We expect a high level of interest in these exciting opportunities."

Apprentices for Business will undertake the initial short listing process which will involve telephone screening interviews followed by face to face interviews. The Council will then be involved in final selection by interview with an intended start day at the beginning of September.

The apprentices will be employed for 37 hours per week and will be paid �2.60 per hour if aged 16-18 (the National Minimum Wage for apprentices). Those aged 19 and above will be paid �2.60 per hour for the first year, and then the National Minimum wage for the remainder of their apprenticeship after that (�4.98 if aged 18-20, and �6.08 for those aged over 21 - with effect from 1 October 2011).
