The South and South-East in Bloom awards took place today at Fontwell Race Course, West Sussex and Fareham was once again victorious, achieving Gold in the Small City category for the eighth consecutive year.
Holly Hill Woodland Park was awarded Gold in the Countryside Park category along with The Sensory Garden of Reflection which also achieved Gold. The Civic Gardens in Fareham was awarded Silver Gilt.
One of Fareham in Bloom's coordinators Pam Chisham received an outstanding achievement award for services to the allotments and In Bloom.
The Portchester Memorial Gardens gained gold in the best commercial/landscape category.
There were also five Britain in Bloom Neighbourhood Awards presented, which were: level four (thriving), the residents of Burnham Wood; Fareham Allotments Association. At level five (outstanding), The Friends of the Sensory Garden; Portchester Groundforce, Brownies and Guides; and the residents of Eleanor's Wood. In addition, back in July, Northern School in Portchester won Gold and Overall Winners in the regional schools category.
Executive Member for Leisure and Community, Councillor Connie Hockley, said: "For the eighth consecutive year Fareham has excelled in showcasing the best of its parks and horticultural provision across the Borough. I would like to take this opportunity to recognise the tremendous contribution from our dedicated volunteers, who work in partnership with the council's officers to maintain an outstanding award winning Borough."
