On Friday 25 November the Fareham and Gosport Domestic Abuse Forum will be holding events in Fareham Shopping Centre and Gosport High Street, between 11am and 3pm, to raise awareness of domestic abuse and how to report it.
Chairman of the Fareham and Gosport Domestic Abuse Forum, Councillor Mrs Kay Mandry, said: "Fareham is an area that is generally low in crime thanks to the excellent work of the Community Safety Partners; however Domestic Abuse is hugely under reported. This is the first time Fareham will hold a domestic abuse awareness event to show how easy it can be reported. Come and show your support and help us raise awareness of domestic abuse."
The Fareham event will be located in the community area outside The Body Shop in Fareham Shopping Centre, and at the Precinct Podium area in West Street. The Mayor and Mayoress of Fareham will be attending and will lead a balloon release at 1pm in West Street. The Gosport event will be located outside Gosport Town Hall where there will be hot refreshments and cakes available free of charge.
The Accredited Community Support Officers, Hampshire Constabulary, Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service will be attending the Fareham event with emergency vehicles. As well as these partners both events will be supported by Fareham and Gosports Community Safety Teams and Fareham & Gosport Family Aid. Other partners supporting the events are Victim Support, local Children's Centres and the Youth Service.
Wessex Youth Offending Team will be making white ribbons for the event. Fareham & Gosport Community Safety Partnerships are producing t-shirts to wear on the day which will show support in delivering the message "Say no to domestic abuse".
All donations will go towards funding services for local voluntary groups dealing with victims and perpetrators of domestic abuse. Please see Fareham Community Safety Partnership's website www.saferfareham.gov.uk and www.safergosport.co.uk
