Citizens of Honour 2012

Fareham Borough Council is seeking nominations for kind hearted youngsters and adults for the 2012 Citizen of Honour and Young Citizen of Honour Awards. There are three categories to nominate, with their own set of criteria to help make nominating worthy candidates easier. The closing date for nominations is Friday 31 January 2012.

Nomination forms and further information can be found at: www.fareham.gov.uk/citizenawards in Fareham Today magazine, winter 2011 or by visiting the Civic Offices.

Executive Leader of Fareham Borough Council, Councillor Sen Woodward, said: "The Citizen of Honour awards are the perfect way for someone to nominate a resident of Fareham who regularly puts others before themselves, has helped others and the community, or may have shown an act of bravery, to be recognised for their commitment".

There are three different categories of nomination, they are as follows:
Citizen of Honour (18 years plus)
This category is awarded in recognition of community and voluntary service which benefits the local community. Award winners could include those who have shown long-term commitment to volunteering with a local charity or voluntary group whose aim is to improve the quality of life for local residents.

Young Citizen of the Year (4-11 years)
This award celebrates an outstanding act of bravery, a regular selfless act for others, or for overcoming and learning to adapt to a registered disability. Young people who are nominated for this award may be making a positive endeavour to take part in community or voluntary activities, or regularly providing care or support to a relative or friend.

Young Citizen of the Year (12-18 years)
This award is in recognition of community and voluntary service which benefits the local community. Like the Citizen of Honour Award young people may be volunteering with a local charity or voluntary group, or providing on-going care to an individual.

Winners will attend the Mayor Making event in May to receive their award badges and certificates and will receive invitations as VIPs to a number of Civic events, a family ticket to the gala performance of the Christmas panto and 15 in vouchers.
