A decision on who will run the new £2m Portchester Community Centre will be made at a special meeting of Fareham Borough Council's Executive on Monday 18 June. Due to the high level of public interest in the decision the Council has decided that the meeting will be held in public.
The Community Centre will include a new children's centre, provision for a pre-school, a large multi-purpose hall, meeting rooms and a kitchen. Expressions of interest were sought from local community organisations interested in running the new Community Centre. Both Portchester Community Association and Portchester Community School were invited to submit a business plan setting out how they proposed to run the new Community Centre.
At a meeting of the Portchester Community Centre Task & Finish Panel on 21 May 2012 members received a presentation and quizzed both organisations about their business plans. Following a detailed and in depth review the Panel made a recommendation to the Executive setting out their preferred way forward in terms of which organisation should run the new centre. The Executive will consider this recommendation and make a final decision at the meeting on 18 June.
Executive Leader of Fareham Borough Council, Councillor Seán Woodward, said: "Fareham Borough Council is ultimately investing over £2,000,000 of cash and resources into the new Portchester Community Centre and I believe that this decision is too important to the community of Portchester to be made behind closed doors. I have therefore asked officers to remove any necessarily confidential information from the report and to make it public."
The special meeting will take place at 5pm on Monday 18 June at the Council's Civic Offices. Any person or organisation wishing to make a deputation at the meeting should register their request by emailing email@example.com or by contacting Democratic Services, Floor 6, Civic Offices, Fareham (tel 01329 824594) no later than midday on Thursday 14 June 2012.
