Fareham Borough Council has received confirmation from Portchester Community Association that they will not be pursuing a judicial review over the decision to offer the lease to run the new Portchester Community Centre. The lease for running the new Community Centre can now be offered to Portchester Community School.
Portchester Community School will be invited to take over the running of the new Community Centre in November. Under the terms of the lease, Portchester Community School will have responsibility for managing and operating the new community centre.
Executive Leader of Fareham Borough Council, Councillor Seán Woodward, said: "The new Community Centre has been built at a cost of £2million funded jointly by Fareham Borough Council & Hampshire County Council, for the benefit of the residents of Portchester. The 830sq metre development will offer the residents of Portchester a new children's centre, provision for a pre-school, a large multi-purpose hall, meeting rooms and a kitchen."
The new Community Centre is scheduled for completion in November and will be transferred to Portchester Community School shortly afterwards. Once the new community centre is up and running, the old building (located next to the new building) will be demolished and the site landscaped.
