Still time to nominate a local hero in Fareham

If you know a local hero living in Fareham, there is still time to nominate them for the Council's Citizen of Honour Award and Young Citizen of the Year awards 2013, before the closing date on Thursday 31 January.

Nomination forms and further information can be found at www.fareham.gov.uk/citizenawards.

Executive Leader of Fareham Borough Council, Councillor Seán Woodward said: “This is a great way to celebrate those unsung heroes living in Fareham, who have made a real difference to people living locally. It could be someone who regularly puts others before themselves, has helped others and the community, or a young person who may have shown an act of bravery".

There are three different categories of nomination, they are as follows:

Citizen of Honour (18 years plus)

This category is awarded in recognition of community and voluntary service which benefits the local community. Award winners could include those who have shown long-term commitment to volunteering with a local charity or voluntary group whose aim is to improve the quality of life for local residents.

Young Citizen of the Year (4-11 years)

This award celebrates an outstanding act of bravery, a regular selfless act for others, or for overcoming and learning to adapt to a registered disability. Young people who are nominated for this award may be making a positive endeavour to take part in community or voluntary activities, or regularly providing care or support to a relative or friend.

Young Citizen of the Year (12-18 years)

This award is in recognition of community and voluntary service which benefits the local community. Like the Citizen of Honour Award young people may be volunteering with a local charity or voluntary group, or providing on-going care to an individual.
Winners will attend the Mayor Making event in May to receive their award badges and certificates and will receive invitations as VIPs to a number of Civic events, a family ticket to the gala performance of the Christmas panto and £15 in vouchers.
