The new mural painted on a wall at Fareham Shopping Centre Multi-Storey car park (Civic Way) has been officially unveiled.
The artwork, which measures around 100ft wide and 16ft high, was designed by Fareham College student Naomi Nixon. Fareham Borough Council asked students from the College to come up with something to improve the appearance of the car park back in November. This project became part of their curriculum.
Naomi's design was chosen as the winner, and students and staff from Fareham College started painting it on the wall in January. It was finally finished earlier this month.
Naomi said: "It's cool that my design will be on the wall for a long time, and it's nice to be recognised. I like nautical things so it was good theme for me and I enjoyed designing the artwork."
Executive Leader of Fareham Borough Council, Councillor Seán Woodward, said: "I would like to say thank you to all of the students and lecturers who were involved with the design and painting of the wall. It was great to look at all of the designs but there had to be one winner. The mural has brightened up what was a dull and boring wall, and will be enjoyed by the many shoppers that use the car park. It's lovely for the students to see their work displayed on a permanent basis, which will be here for many years to come."
