Fareham Borough Council has announced the winner of the public vote for the name of the new community North of Fareham.
The new town will be called Welborne. The name relates to fields immediately north of Kiln Road and south of Kneller Court – as shown in maps from the 1800s.
Three choices were voted upon – Welborne, Swansdell and Spurlings – and people have been casting their votes over the last few months. They have been able to do so in various ways, including via Facebook, our website, voting slips in The News or Fareham Today, or by using the voting boxes at the Civic Offices or in Fareham Shopping Centre.
People have also cast their votes at Community Action Team meetings and many local primary schools have also been involved with hundreds of children casting their votes.
In total the Council received over 5,000 votes and Welborne won with nearly half of the total votes. The result was announced by the Executive Leader of the Council on Monday 15th April.
This decision is subject to the normal call in period.
