Fareham Borough Council is pleased to announce that their popular children's initiative, the Play Rangers, will be returning to the Borough of Fareham this Summer and during other school holidays throughout the year.
With the help of Fareham Children's Partnership and First Wessex, who have provided the Council with some funding, the free activity sessions aimed at 5-12 year olds will be taking place throughout the school holidays across the year. The Rangers will kick off with a programme of activities during July and August, with sessions including nature activities, messy play, football, pirate days, den building and outdoors play.
We have now teamed up with Y Services for Young People who will be running the activities on our behalf.
The scheme will be launched on Saturday 20th July, when the Play Rangers will be attending the Fareham Park Purse -Summer Fun Day outside Fareham North West Community Centre.
Y Services Youth Worker, Fiona Durrant said: "Play Rangers is going to be bigger and better than ever this year. We're going to be running at least 6 sessions a week, all across the holidays so you can drop in whenever you like and join in the activities. The emphasis is on the outdoors; it's all about children and young people getting into the sunshine and having a good time this summer."
Executive member for Leisure and Community, Cllr Connie Hockley, said:
"I'm delighted the Play Rangers are returning this summer; it's great news for both parents and children. When Big Lottery funding for the service ended last year we were determined to make sure it wasn't the end of the hugely popular sessions. We have obtained external grant funding and following a tendering process, I'm pleased to say we've now teamed up with Y Services who will run the Play Ranger scheme for us. With more than 30 events happening across the Borough during July and August, from nature play, to footy fun and messy art – there's something for everyone."
The Play Rangers Initiative seeks to provide free fun, safe and informal play opportunities using the parks and green spaces across the Borough. The sessions are accessible to all local children and young people, although children under 8 years old must be supervised by their parent, carer or a responsible adult.
