Fareham North West Ward Councillor, David Whittingham, resigned yesterday as member of the UKIP group and requested that he wished to be treated as a member of the Conservative group with immediate effect.
The request was confirmed by the leader of the Conservative group and Councillor Whittingham has now re-joined Fareham Borough Council's Conservative group.
The result of these changes means that the political makeup of the council is 23 Conservative, 6 Liberal Democrat and 2 Independent Councillors.
Notes to editor:
As a result of the change, the UKIP Group at Fareham Borough Council is no longer constituted as it now consists of a single member. An individual councillor can remain a member of a political party but will be treated as an independent councillor.
