Ten thousand takeaway bags have been distributed to local restaurants as part of the Great Fareham Food Rescue, in partnership with Sainsbury's. The bags allow customers to easily take their leftovers home with them when they eat out. This will help to reduce food waste in restaurants, as around a third of what they throw away is food which has been left on our plates.
We launched a competition with local school children, asking them to send in their designs for the takeaway bags. Out of a staggering 1,500 entries, the winning design was sent in by ten-year-old, Enya Chui. These bags are available in participating restaurants around the Borough. Enya was presented with a certificate from The Mayor of Fareham, Councillor Geoff Fazackarley, in The Mayor's Parlour on 13 February.
