Limesdowne Petanque Club has been re-homed with the help of a £4,999 grant from Fareham Borough Council's Community Funding programme.
The Club's previous home at The Limes, Titchfield, was demolished after the club signed an agreement to be 're-homed' at the Fareham North West Community Centre and use the land next to it to build a new terrain.
The total cost to establish the new facility is £13,247. The remainder of the money will be raised from the club's reserves and by members pledging interest free loans to the project. A contribution of £2,000 has also been made by Hampshire County Councillor Geoff Hockley, having previously been elected Councillor for the ward where the club had been located for 30 years he was keen to help them find a replacement home.
The Club, which has now changed it's name to Fareham Petanque Club, will try out their new terrain today, if all is well they will resume practise sessions. The club is open throughout the winter and welcomes any new players or beginners that may be interested to come along on Wednesdays at 7.30pm, for more details telephone 01329 829459.
Executive Leader of Fareham Borough Council, Councillor Seán Woodward said that "Petanque can be played throughout the year and appeals to people of all ages. The money provided by the Community Fund will help secure the survival of this popular club."
