The new Mayor of Fareham for 2014/15 has been appointed today following the Mayor Making ceremony at Ferneham Hall. Councillor David Norris is now the Mayor of Fareham, and the Mayoress is his wife, Pamela Norris.
This year, the Mayor will be supporting two charities which are The Stubbington Ark and the Rowans Hospice. The Stubbington Ark provides animal shelter and welfare services, caring for everything from pets and wildlife to farm stock and exotic species. The Rowans Hospice is a local charity dedicated to improving the lives of people with cancer and other life-shortening illnesses.
Mayor of Fareham, Councillor David Norris said: "I'm looking forward to my year as Mayor and am honoured to take on the role. I hope many people will support my worthy charities and that we can raise lots of money for them. I can't wait to attend the mayoral events in the coming year."
The new Mayor's Cadet, Cadet Corporal Matthew Charter, was also appointed for 2014/15. Matthew attends 9 Platoon HMS Collingwood Army Cadet Force, which he joined in 2009. He was successful in being one of the cadets who made up the Field Gun team representing the Army Cadet Force at HMS Collingwood Open Day last year, which is an extremely high honour.
Matthew will take part in various duties to support the Mayor throughout the forthcoming year, including attendance at civic events, wreath bearing, church readings and assisting the Mayor's Attendants.
