A Fareham brass band have been able to purchase a tuba with the help of a £2,695 grant from the Borough Council's Community Funding programme.
Spinnaker Brass have bass players who can play the tuba but until recently had no instrument for them to practise or perform with. Last year the group placed 5th at the Regional finals, with the addition of the Tuba's extra low pitch, the band hope to be able to improve on their success.
You can hear the band perform with the new instrument at Holy Rood Church, Stubbington on 6th December at a Christmas charity concert in aid of the Mayor of Fareham's sponsored charities. Tickets, £7.50, are available from the Mayor, Cllr Norris, 02392 614257.
Community Action Team Chairman for Fareham South, Councillor Trevor Howard said "Spinnaker Brass often plays to entertain and raise funds for local causes. They are deserving recipients of the community fund."
The Community Fund is available to support projects that benefit the local community or environment within the Borough of Fareham. Any resident, or organisation can apply for money for one off purchases from the Community Fund.
