Fareham Borough Council has granted planning permission for a Lidl food store on the Castle Trading Estate in Portchester.
The application was considered at a special meeting of the Planning Committee today, which was held at Ferneham Hall and attended by around 400 residents.
Lidl's plan includes the demolition of the existing buildings on the old Homewood Interiors site and the construction of a Lidl food store with around 70 parking spaces.
Councillor Nick Walker, Chairman of the Planning Committee, said: "We considered all the relevant planning issues, including the likely impact of the store on Portchester District Centre, when making our decision. The Lidl store will create jobs and increase the options on offer to local shoppers."
