After the announcement of the first bathing water classifications under the 2006 Bathing Water Directive, Hill Head has been classified as 'Excellent'. A symbol to reflect the site's new status will be added to the existing signage before the beginning of next year's bathing session.
Fareham Borough Council was notified by the Environment Agency of the award on 5 November this year in a letter to the Chief Executive. The classifications are based on monitoring data collected by the Environment Agency between 2012 – 2015. The bathing waters at Hill Head were sampled as it is the area's only designated bathing beach.
Executive Member for Public Protection, Cllr Trevor Cartwright says, "We are absolutely delighted that our beach at Hill Head has been given the highest award possible. It is fantastic news for everyone that uses the beach. All we need now is a really good summer next year to get the maximum benefit from it!"
