The Mayor of Fareham Councillor Trevor Cartwright MBE and Mayoress Mrs Ruth Cartwright are helping a leading cancer charity make its fundraising event the biggest ever – by putting the kettle on for staff and Councillors at Fareham Borough Council.
The Mayor of Fareham is taking part in Macmillan Cancer Support's World's Biggest Coffee Morning this September, and he wants the people of Fareham to get involved too.
The Mayor of Fareham, Councillor Trevor Cartwright MBE, said: “I know a considerable number of people who have personal experience of the problems a cancer diagnosis can bring to both patients and their family, and I know that Macmillan has been there to support many of those in need.
“That’s why I'm hosting a coffee morning to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support."
"I would also urge all of you to consider holding your own coffee morning, or coffee evening. It's an easy and fun way to raise money for Macmillan, and every penny you raise will help people with cancer.”
Last year thousands of people across the UK took part in coffee morning, raising around £8m for Macmillan.
This year the charity hopes to raise even more money from the September 30th event to help fund vital cancer services in Fareham.
Fundraising manager for Hampshire, Lisa Murphy, said: “We are extremely grateful to the Mayor of Fareham for holding a coffee morning to raise money for us.
"Hopefully his participation will also encourage even more local people to sign up to host a coffee morning of their own.
"It’s a really fun event that is really easy to take part in, especially as you can do it your way.
"It doesn’t have to be about coffee and mornings. It can be about afternoon tea or an evening dinner party. All that matters is that you take part and help us make this year’s event the biggest ever.”
