HRH The Princess Royal will be present at a special Freedom March by HMS Collingwood through Fareham Town Centre on Tuesday 20 March. Whilst visiting Fareham, The Princess Royal will also officially open the newly upgraded West Street Play Area to commemorate The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.
As 'Freeman of the Borough', HMS Collingwood will be exercising their right to march through the town, with 'bayonets fixed and flags a flying'; led by the Royal Marines band based at HMS Collingwood.
The event will take place in West Street, Fareham where The Princess Royal will be met by the Mayor of Fareham, Councillor Trevor Cartwright MBE. Dame Mary Fagan DCVO JP, Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Hampshire will also be present.
The Mayor of Fareham, Councillor Trevor Cartwright MBE, said: "I will be honoured to welcome Her Royal Highness to Fareham for a very special Freedom March to mark The Queen's Diamond Jubilee. As the only other British monarch to celebrate a Diamond Jubilee was Queen Victoria in 1897, it is important that we mark the occasion with a very special event which I hope many local people will join with us to celebrate."
