Fareham Borough Council is looking for people to nominate local heroes by Thursday 31 January 2013 for the Citizen of Honour and Young Citizen of the Year awards 2013. Nominations forms and further information can be found at www.fareham.gov.uk/citizenawards, in the winter edition of Fareham Today magazine or by visiting the Civic Offices.
Executive Leader of Fareham Borough Council, Councillor Seán Woodward said: "This is a great way to celebrate those people living in Fareham who have made a real difference to their local community by helping others or by showing bravery in some way. It is a fantastic way to recognise a local hero and show them our thanks."
There are three different categories of nomination, they are as follows:
This category is awarded in recognition of community and voluntary service which benefits the local community. Award winners could include those who have shown long-term commitment to volunteering with a local charity or voluntary group whose aim is to improve the quality of life for local residents.
This award celebrates an outstanding act of bravery, a regular selfless act for others, or for overcoming and learning to adapt to a registered disability. Young people who are nominated for this award may be making a positive endeavour to take part in community or voluntary activities, or regularly providing care or support to a relative or friend.
This award is in recognition of community and voluntary service which benefits the local community. Like the Citizen of Honour Award young people may be volunteering with a local charity or voluntary group, or providing on-going care to an individual.
Winners will attend the Mayor Making event in May to receive their award badges and certificates and will receive invitations as VIPs to a number of Civic events and a family ticket to the gala performance of the Christmas panto. The Young Citizen(s) of Honour will also be invited to switch on the Christmas lights in Fareham with the Mayor.
