Over 50 local traders, community organisations and business representatives expressed their strong support for the draft proposals for inclusion in an Action Plan for Fareham Town Centre (being prepared by Fareham Borough Council), at a Business Breakfast hosted by the Executive Leader of the Council, Councillor Seán Woodward.
Attendees were asked for their views on the actions proposed for inclusion in the Action Plan for Fareham Town Centre, which aims to keep the Town Centre a vibrant and attractive place for shoppers and businesses. They were also asked how best to spend the £100,000 the Council was recently awarded to help improve the Town Centre.
The Action Plan will address a number of issues including:
• Parking in the Town Centre;
• Developing an overall plan for the Town Centre;
• Linking up the Town Centre's wide range of facilities;
• Information and publicity about the Town Centre;
• The impact of empty shops.
Executive Leader of Fareham Borough Council, Councillor Seán Woodward said: "We are pleased that so many local traders and businesses have shown their support for our emerging proposals, particularly the creation of a Town Centre Website and the removal of the £25 penalty charge for parking more than 5 hours in the pay-on-exit car parks."
The Council will consider the suggestions made at the Business Breakfast and build them into the Action Plan where appropriate. The Council will then consider the final Action Plan for Fareham Town Centre at an Executive Meeting in September.
