11:00 - Sunday 18 March
The snow around the town centre paths and car parks in Fareham is currently being cleared and salted, but limited resources mean that other areas around the Borough will not be.
Priority areas such as sheltered housing schemes will be cleared tomorrow morning if the snow remains overnight.
All town centre Car parks are open.
'The Magic of Hollywood - Pasha Kovalev' show scheduled for 19:30 today at Ferneham Hall will still go ahead.
Any further information throughout the day will be posted on this website.
From the 1 November 2012, visitors to Fareham Town Centre’s most central car parks will be able to stay longer as Fareham Borough Council will be removing the 5 hour £25 penalty charge in the town's three pay-on-foot car parks at Market Quay, Fareham Shopping Centre and Osborn Road Multi-storey Car parks.
The hourly rate for the Market Quay Car park will remain at £1.50, whilst both the Fareham Shopping Centre and Osborn Road Multi-storey car parks hourly rate will remain at £1.00. The key difference will be that visitors can now stay all day in these central car parks, rather than being limited to a 5 hour stay.
Councillor Keith Evans, Executive Member for Strategic Planning and Environment, said: "I’m really pleased we have been able to support local traders and businesses by removing this penalty charge, especially at a time when the town centre will be at its busiest with all the Christmas shoppers. This will help to maintain and extend the prosperity of the town centre for both retailers and shoppers alike.”
The penalty charge was originally introduced in response to traders' concerns that the most central car parks were being used by all-day parkers who were depriving shoppers of the most convenient parking spaces and affecting trade. However, following recent consultation with and support from Fareham town centre traders', the Council has chosen to remove the penalty charge as part of a package of measures to maintain the vibrancy of the town centre.
