What the new local plan will do
The Local Plan will be the borough's most important planning document and will help shape Fareham's future over the next 15 years and beyond.
It will:
- Set out a vision and strategy for the future development of the borough.
- Identify how much housing and employment development Fareham needs to plan for.
- Allocate land for new homes, businesses, community facilities and other development.
- Support economic growth and investment.
- Guide the delivery of infrastructure such as transport improvements, schools, healthcare facilities, green spaces and utilities.
- Protect and enhance the borough's natural environment, heritage assets and landscape.
- Help address climate change and support sustainable development.
- Provide planning policies used to determine planning applications.
The Local Plan will balance the need for growth with the protection of the qualities that make Fareham a desirable place to live, work and visit.
