Refuse, recycling and garden waste alternative collections during industrial action – 16 and 17 July 2008

Public sector members of the UNISON and T&GWU/UNITE unions have been called to take industrial action on Wednesday 16th July and Thursday 17th July 2008. It is anticipated that most services provided by Fareham Borough Council will continue during this period.

 

However, Fareham Borough Council is advising residents of the following changes to waste collections over the two day industrial action period of 16 and 17 July 2008:

 

• Residents are asked to put out their refuse (green top bins) on their normal collection day. Wherever possible we will collect on the normal day. If this is not possible the refuse (green top bins) will be collected by the end of the day on Friday 18 July.

• Recyclables (blue top bins) will not be collected on Wednesday 16th, Thursday 17th or Friday 18th July 2008. Recyclables will be collected on Monday 21st July, Tuesday 22nd July and Wednesday 23 July.

• In order to enable refuse collections to be completed on Friday 18 July, there will be no garden waste collections for one week between Wednesday 16th July and Wednesday 23rd July inclusive. Garden waste collections will restart on Thursday 24th July.

• It is expected that normal collection will resume by Friday 25 July.

There may also be changes to trade waste services as a result of industrial action. Fareham Borough Council is advising its Trade Waste customers that waste collections are uncertain on Wednesday 16th July and Thursday 17th July.  

We will try to collect trade waste on the allocated collection day.  Should this not be possible, we will make collection of all waste as soon after the industrial action as we can.   Trade Waste customers should have their containers ready for collection on their usual day and leave it out until the waste has been cleared.
