Make the Pledge to Recycle

Fareham Borough Council is asking residents to make the pledge to recycle more and enter a prize draw to win a hamper in time for Christmas!

The Council collects recycling from every household in blue-lid bins, but a lot of recyclable material is still put in the general waste bins. Many people recycle plastic milk bottles from the kitchen, but forget about the shampoo bottles from the bathroom. Even the cleaning bottles from the smallest room can be recycled, as long as they are empty.

Did you know more food is thrown away from homes than packaging in the UK every year? In Hampshire 30% of all waste collected from households is food waste, and most of it could have been eaten.

By taking the pledge and thinking a bit more carefully before throwing something in the bin, residents can help the environment and save themselves money.

The four pledges are as follows:

Executive member for Streetscene, Councillor Tiffany Harper says: "I encourage everyone to get involved with this to help reduce household waste and support our environment."

For further information about how to enter, please visit: /waste_collection_and_recycling/recycling/pledge.aspx.
