Press Release

21 September 2015

Barking Brilliant!

Fareham and Gosport's Stray Dog Service has once again received the RSPCA's 'top dog' gold award!

It is the sixth year in a row that the service has achieved Gold in the RSPCA's Community Animal Welfare Footprints (CAWF) awards. Launched in 2008, the award recognises the work of authorities and organisations to protect the welfare of stray dogs and ensure that as many as possible find their way back to their owners.

Fareham's Executive Member for Public Protection, Councillor Trevor Cartwright, said "It is fantastic to see that the hard work that is put in by our dog control officers has been recognised. They work really hard all year round to ensure every dog we pick up is looked after. By April 2016 it will be compulsory by law for all dogs to be micro-chipped".
Fareham and Gosport Borough Councils work together to deliver the service across both areas. If you have lost a dog in either Borough, you can contact the partnerships dog control officers to see if they have been kennelled. If you find a stray dog, you can get them help by calling 02392 545609, or 0800 374485 if out of hours. For more details about the stray dog service in Fareham visit www.fareham.gov.uk.
