The Titchfield Abbey Women's institute revealed a new picnic bench, complete with a brass plaque, last week thanks to a community grant of £975 from Fareham Borough Council.
The new bench located at Barry's Meadow play area complements the existing benches which are regularly used by local families. The Women's Institute (WI) contributed £300 towards the project, £260 of which was raised by raffling a patchwork quilt and the Titchfield Village Trust contributed £40.
Executive Member for Leisure and Community, Cllr Sue Bell said: "The bench commemorates the WI's 100th birthday this month. It is a wonderful gift to the local community from both the Titchfield Abbey and Titchfield Women's Institutes and will be enjoyed by many residents."
The Community Fund is available to support projects that benefit the local community or environment within the Borough of Fareham.
