Fareham's Citizen and Young Citizens of Honour 2016 winners were presented with their awards at the Mayor Making Ceremony last week.
This year, the Council recognised five residents for giving up their time and helping the community.
Young Citizen of Honour (4-11 years)
Joseph wanted to help children who couldn't do all of the things he can do. He visited the Rainbow Centre to see how they spend their time and to meet some of the children. On his eighth birthday, he abseiled down Fareham Fire Station and raised lots of money for the Centre.
Young Citizen of Honour (11-17years)
Caitlyn Stream Lowe
Caitlyn saw an elderly man who had fallen in the road and was bleeding quite badly, so she stopped to help. Caitlyn made the man as comfortable as possible, called an ambulance and his family, and caught his dog as it was running into the road. She waited with him until further help arrived, potentially saving this man's life.
Citizen of Honour (18+)
Ken is the Chairman of the Titchfield Lunch Club and runs the Warsash Lunch Club. He regularly cooks for both clubs and takes people to hospital appointments, does their shopping and generally gives a helping hand to anyone that needs it.
Stewart is well loved and respected within the swimming community, having been connected with Fareham Nomad Swimming Club for over 35 years. During this time he has fulfilled many roles including the Chair of the club and has been a coach for over 25 years. He has helped lots of children through local competitions, County, Regional and National Championships, British, European and World Masters Championships, Junior International and even coached someone for the1992 Barcelona British Paralympic Team.
Jean has played a pivotal role in the development of the Fareham in Bloom campaign. She has been involved in the scheme for over 18 years through both volunteering and by entering her own garden. She has successfully managed and developed the annual Gardens Open Day for more than 10 years, which has raised lots of money for charity.
The outgoing Mayor of Fareham, Cllr Mike Ford gave out the awards and he said: "The things people do for others never fail to amaze me. I would like to say a huge thank you to each one of the winners for giving up their time to help the community. It was a pleasure to meet them and present them with their well-deserved awards."
