Press Release

14 November 2016

Eat out, eat well

Food businesses in Fareham and Gosport have been rewarded for offering healthier options to their customers thanks to the Eat Out, Eat Well Scheme.

The Eat Out, Eat Well scheme was launched across the area in February and 14 businesses have signed up so far. The scheme aims to help food businesses make small changes to the menu such as reducing the fat, sugar and salt levels of dishes and offering other healthy options. This means that consumers can opt for healthier choices when buying takeaways or eating out at cafés, sandwich shops and restaurants.

Executive Member for Public Protection, Cllr Trevor Cartwright said: "This is a great step forward in helping people make small changes to their lifestyles in order to improve their overall health. Businesses taking part in the scheme will display the 'Eat Out, Eat Well' certificate, so keep an eye out for this to ensure that you have the option to eat healthier when enjoying a meal out."

Chairman of the Community Board at Gosport Borough Council, Cllr Graham Burgess, said: "It's really important that we work together to provide the public with healthier options. Hopefully these awards will encourage other food businesses to sign up and help make the community healthier."

Catering businesses in Fareham and Gosport with a food hygiene rating of at least three can sign up to the scheme. They are then rewarded with a Bronze, Silver or Gold award which can be displayed in the window. The award is valid for two years.

If you are a food business in Fareham or Gosport and would like to talk about the scheme or find out how to apply for the award please contact the Environmental Health Team on 01329 236100 or email regulatory@fareham.gov.uk
