Fareham Borough Council is the proud owner of a small electrically powered vehicle.
The vehicle is intended for general use in and around the town centre, for grounds maintenance and litter collection.
The vehicle is powered entirely by electricity and it has zero emissions, therefore the road fund licence is free.
A single 3-hour charge from a standard plug point gives the vehicle a range of 60 miles and it is capable of travelling at up to 30 MPH, and will carry a 400KG load.
Executive Leader for Fareham Borough Council, Councillor Seán Woodward, said "As far as I am aware, Fareham is the only local authority in Hampshire using such a vehicle, which with its zero emissions is a great benefit to the environment."
The Green Machine is two years old and cost £7,000 to purchase. A new machine would cost £15,000. The Green Machine is expected to last for 5-7 years.
