The first meeting of the Strategic Board for the New Community North of Fareham was held on Tuesday 12 June. Chaired by the Executive Leader of Fareham Borough Council, Councillor Seán Woodward, the Strategic Board will lead, manage and co-ordinate the planning and delivery of the new community. At the meeting, Henry Cleary OBE, independent advisor to the Strategic Board, was elected as the Independent chairman for the Standing Conference, the first of which will be held on Wednesday 20 June.
Henry Cleary has a strong background in large scale development having retired from the Senior Civil Service in the Department of Communities and Local Government in October 2011. Since 2001 he had responsibility for the Department’s programmes on housing growth, including growth areas, growth points, eco-towns, funding and infrastructure and, more recently, design and housing renewal.
Executive Member for Strategic Planning and Environment, Councillor Keith Evans said: "Henry Cleary has an in depth knowledge and experience about large scale developments and the issues and concerns they can bring as well as the benefits. I look forward to him chairing the Standing Conference."
The Standing Conference will keep local business, housing, voluntary, education, youth and environment interests up to date with the overall progress of the new community and will give them the opportunity to discuss key issues.
