We have launched a new littering campaign to encourage people to take their litter home. Fareham is an area of unique beauty with many beach, countryside and recreation public spaces, so it's important that we keep it looking its best.

The theme of our campaign this year is 'No More Rubbish Excuses', designed to help tackle some of the main issues we experience around the Borough. These include:

Not only will we be promoting this campaign Borough wide in littering hotspots and places of natural beauty, but we have also teamed up with Litter Lotto External Hyperlink (opens in new window) to offer residents spot-prizes and the chance to win a £10,000 jackpot – just for throwing your litter in the bin! All you have to do is download the Litter Lotto app External Hyperlink (opens in new window) and upload a picture of you putting litter in one of our bins for your chance to win.

Around 686 tonnes of waste was collected from our litter bins and through litter picking of streets, parks, seafronts and open spaces in 2020 – that's like 98 elephants or 381 average cars! Not only that, the total cost of the removal of litter and fly tipping from our Borough in the last financial year was 1.15 million pounds.

To help deal with this kind of environmental issue, our enforcement team is in the community issuing £80.00 fines - known as a fixed penalty notice (FPN). If you fail to pay, you could face prosecution and a fine of up to £2,500. You can find out more about this here.

If you are out and about, please take responsibility for your local area and take your litter home.
